Wordpress 2.8 fail

Friday, June 12th, 2009

I have tried to update my wordpress to version 2.8 and made a complete mess to my admin section. Although apparently the website was still working, the admin panel was nowhere to be seen. First of all I have received some gateway errors and other crap, when using automatic update, then after talking with my hosting providers (MyHost – very nice people indeed, and very helpful too) they advised me to try to reinstall the wordpress again.

I have done that again and again until it occured to me that something was terribly wrong with it. After some research on the internet I have found out that there are some major problems to the dashbord and support of some plugins. I have tried to remove the plugins but it nothing happened. I took a very wise decision then and downgrated to version 2.7. Now it all works perfectly.

As for the update, I will probably wait for version 2.8.1 to appear and the plugins to be updated. :)

Google starts audio indexing

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Google has just launched a new feature: Audio Indexing. I believe it’s pretty because there are just a few videos there (not audios though) just related to politics. But it is a beginning and I cannot wait to get relevant videos and audios on my favorite content.

Google Chrome available for download

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

This morning something nice happedned, when I got to the office, a new interesting thing was waiting for me to test it.  :P The new Google Chrome :) Well, I did, as you can see, and it’s excellent.

All works pretty well and I very pleased about some new features which were almost essential like searching websites and words in the same searchbar, a precise download bar where you can follow your downloads easyly without any pop-ups and a quick bookmarks area.

So this is my first impresion, very stable and pretty straightforward. I am keen to put it at hard work. Promise I will get back with feedback.

Google has lauched it’s new web browser Chrome

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

After they  extended the deal with Mozilla, Google has launched it’s own web browser. Chrome wants to be the best in security, stability, CPU memory optimization and resources control. Well we have to see about that. But it sounds like they have done a great job and I am really glad that there’s something new to compete against Internet Explorer. Maybe an OS is the new thing in line in competing with the Redmont giant.

Check the demo here.

Harry Potter might become jealous

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

There’s an interesting article on CNN about invisibility.Invisible

“Teams of scientists around the globe say they’re making progress on theories and experiments involving cloaking — that is, making things invisible. In theory, all that’s needed to make a small object invisible is something called a superlens, says Graeme Milton, a mathematician at the University of Utah.” says the article.

Well isn’t that nice. This would mean a great deal of thins. Besides the really exciting part which sounds like a Harry Potter movie there are many serious implications to this.

The major aspect which bothers me is the security issue. If we gain the ability to become invisible things might get a little crazy in some places. The may aspect is national security, crime and thefts. Another aspect would imply personal privacy. I wouldn’t enjoy having someone in my house without me seeing them. ;)

Probably the most important aspect will imply a bigger development for the army, but again which army is that, because I don’t imagine that this new discovery will be shared so easily to all states.

There are many ethical aspects that need to be discussed before we can think about becoming invisible.
