The New Shine at Yahoo!!

Yahoo! has just launched yesterday their new service, Shine. I am very pleased to discover that blending communities is the new way of thinking for yahoo, and I wondered when they were going to invest in women portals. I believe that they really put the finger on it, by merging  blogs and communities with yahoo sub domains.

I find interesting the resemblance of Speak up with the www.lady4ever.ro community – the concept I made for one of my projects together with Ruschi (a brilliant creative now working for HP as Creative Internet Specialist). ;)

I am very pleased to find out that my way ideas are going in the right direction. I was just talking the other day (more…)

Mozilla Labs Prism – bridging web applications and desktop apps

Mozilla has launched in  October 2007 a new experiment called Prism. An application that lets users split web applications out of their browser and run them directly on their desktop. When they are  executed, the applications run in their own window.

Prism is a web integrated platform built on Firefox, so it supports rich Internet technologies like HTML, JavaScript, CSS and runs on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.Mozilla prism

Web applications get lost amongst countless tabs of documents, and are closed by accident. being trapped inside the browser, they are unable to fully integrate with a user’s computing environment.

Honesty is a subtle knife

“What do you think of me?” – does this line sound familiar? Well is the most common sentence on the lips of every teenager. And there are more like this: “Do you like my new haircut? Do you like my new dress? Do you like me?” These are all profs that teenagers are reaching out to get more confidence in them, to get in touch with others and to have more friends. But besides the nice aspect of developing a community, having fun and evolving into adulthood there are some other aspects that need to be considered. (more…)

Does my data and web history belong to me?

After having our activity traced on various websites (e-mails, information on your electronic payments, what products one has purchased) we are jumping to the next level.

Internet providers (Internet BT, Virgin and Talk Talk) have signed contracts to use Phorm, a company which tracks web activity to create personalized adverts. They are planning to test the system which tracks the websites visited by their customers in order to analyze their browsing habits to target advertising. The customers Talk Talk would have to opt in to use Phorm, while the two other companies are still considering the options. (more…)
